Style and Colour: Belgian Dark Trappist (Dubbel)
Taste: The initial taste is sweet, while the dark malt holds in place the finishing touches of burnt chicory and toasted bread.It is also fruity with touches of curaçao and coriander.
Alcohol: 7 % ABV
Drinking Temperature: 10 - 12° C
Fermentation: High fermentation beer that re-ferments in the bottle.
The Brewery: The brewing of beer for the monks’ own use commenced in 1862 in Abbay Scourmont in Chimay. In 1933 the ‘Trappistenbier’ name was trademarked. Only beers made by monks in an Abbaye can take the name "Trappist".
Origin: The Chimay Rouge was brewed for the very first time back in 1862. It is the oldest Chimay of the range. This is why you will see "Première" on the bottle.
Food: It pairs wonderfully with cheese.
